One of the most important things that accentuate an institution's greater advancement is its pursuit of change. Student contribution has been advocated for by many well-standing universities and has proven a better approach and a more refined way of an exuberant advancement both academically and personally. This article highlights how such contribution can be administered using novel approaches while preserving the main guidelines for graduating not only health-care providers but also researchers and life-long learners. The new prospect of students as beneficial assets provides an educational institution with valuable creative ideas, eye sights that can detect points of possible reform in the educational system, and another significant voice to the making of future decisions. The faculty has successfully been able to apply certain characteristics-self-independence, new rational scope, practical and tutoring skills-to undergraduates through peer-to-peer learning technique, medical poster presentation skills, and case-based learning manner.

The cell is the basic structural unit of all living organisms. Most of the cells forming the human body share the basic components, but there are many categories that have specific light and electron microscopic characteristics. This review shed a light on these cell categories and their morphologies. Stem cell category is the cells responsible for the regeneration of damaged or lost cells, whereas protein-secreting cells are those responsible for the production and secretion of proteins. Protein-secreting cells have specific characters such as basophilic cytoplasm and vesicular nucleus by light microscope; these are confirmed by an electron microscope that shows rough endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, secretory granules, and mitochondria. Steroid secreting, ion transporting, and contracting categories have specific morphology. Phagocytic cells such as macrophages and neutrophils are characterized by the presence of many lysosomes and phagosomes. Supporting cells are very important category as they not only support but also usually have another function such as myelin formation in Schwann, blood–brain barrier in astrocytes, or modification of response as in Pacinian corpuscle. Many cells showed interrelated characters between different categories, for example, phagocytic cells are able to contract to perform their function in fighting microorganism. Although we have trillions of cells, yet they only fall in some categories. Each cell category has specific morphological characters confirmed by ultrastructural characters. They all adapted to perform the desired functions.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is characterized by progressive loss of peripheral nerves, which causes numbness, weakness, and severe pain. The medications available currently provide only modest relief from the pain of DPN and are associated with various side effects, which has generated an enormous demand for research on new therapeutic approaches. Dysregulation of the endocannabinoid system has been reported in DPN. Cannabinoid-based medications have gained increasing attention as a potential therapy to alleviate DPN pain. Endocannabinoids and cannabinoids' actions are mediated primarily by cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB₁R) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB₂R). Cannabinoids that activate CB₁R have demonstrated a profound antinociceptive effect, although CB₁R is associated with undesirable psychoactive effects. Peripherally restricted CB₁R agonists help overcome this problem; however, adverse metabolic and cardiovascular effects limit its therapeutic use. In contrast, CB₁R antagonists, selective CB₂R agonists, and endocannabinoid metabolizing enzymes inhibitors alleviate DPN pain effectively with minimal side effects. This article provides a concise overview of the preclinical and clinical studies that have tested the therapeutic potential of targeting the endocannabinoid system to treat painful DPN.

Background: Statins are among the first line of pharmacological treatment of lipid disorders and lowering serum cholesterol, but they have many side effects. Aim: The study aim was to evaluate the role of raisins in protecting the thyroid function and structure in a rat model of hypercholesterolemia, through biochemical and histopathological investigation. Materials and Methods: Thirty male rats were randomly divided into three groups (n = 10 each) of albino rats included the control, high cholesterol diet (HCD)-fed for 13 weeks and HCD plus Raisins were included in this study. Blood levels of glucose, insulin, cholesterol, lipids, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), T3, T4, oxidants/anti-oxidants were assessed. Thyroid gland was processed and examined histopathologically using light and electron microscopy. Results: Feeding HCD resulted in hypercholesterolemia in rats after 13 weeks as evidence by lipid profile. Ingestion of raisins along with HCD resulted in a significant (P < 0.001) decrease in the levels of insulin, blood glucose, thyroxine (T4) and malondialdehyde (MDA), while the levels of TSH, T3 and total anti-oxidant capacity significantly (P < 0.001) elevated. Raisins histologically alleviated the HCD-induced structural changes in the thyroid glands that included degenerated mitochondria and increased lipid droplets in the cytoplasm. Conclusions: Simultaneous administration of raisins along with HCD, administrated for a short time, could modulate the negative effect on thyroid gland structure and function.

Background: Muscle injuries represent a great part of athletic injuries. The repairing of skeletal muscle after injury is highly influenced by its regenerative response that may be affected by thermotherapy. Aim: This research examined the consequence of heat therapy on muscle recovery after skeletal muscle injury in rats. Materials and Methods: Forty-five male adult albino rats were classified into three groups: control, cardiotoxin-injected without heat (nonheating group), and cardiotoxin-injected with heat (heating group). Muscle injury was caused by the injection of cardiotoxin intramuscularly into the tibialis anterior muscles. Heating treatment (40°C for 20 min) was started immediately after the injury. Subsequent observations were performed at day 1, 3, and 7 after injury, including histological imaging and vimentin immunostaining expression. Results: In the heating group, the regenerating myotubes, having two or more central nuclei, first looked at 3 days after muscle injury, while in the nonheating group, the regenerating fibers were first observed at 7 days after muscle injury. Immunohistochemically, the vimentin reactions were absent in control muscle fibers but were identified in regenerating muscle fiber of the heating group earlier than in the nonheating group. Conclusion: Starting of heat treatment immediately after muscle injury promoted the regeneration of muscle fibers.

Introduction and Aim of the Work: Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) are considered the most frequently utilized NPs, so the potential for human exposure has increased tremendously. Hence, the study is aimed to compare the histopathological effects of high and low doses of ZnO NPs administered intranasally or intravenously on lung tissue of adult rat's male albino. Materials and Methods: Thirty-five male Wistar rats were divided into Group I; control group, Group II (intranasal administered group) was subdivided into Subgroup IIA and IIB, in which the animals were injected with 4 and 30 mg/kg of ZnO NPs, respectively. Group III (intravenous administered group) was subdivided into two subgroups with the same doses as Group II. Blood samples were collected after 24 h for estimating serum level of lactate dehydrogenase. Rat lungs were processed for histological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural analysis. Results: ZnO NPs caused thickening of interalveolar septa. Extravasated red blood cells were noticed in the alveolar lumen and in some bronchioles. Many dilated blood vessels exhibited focal disruption and focal thickening of their wall. Collagenous fibers were deposited in the interalveolar septa and the walls of bronchi. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha immune reactivity was significantly increased. These findings increased on dose increase, mainly in the intranasal administered group when compared with the intravenous group. Conclusion: ZnO NPs administration caused toxic effects on the histological structure of albino rat lung. These effects were route and dose-dependent, being more obvious after intranasal administration.

Introduction: The anatomical and morphological variation of vertebral artery has clinical importance not only to the performance of interventional or surgical procedure itself but also to ensure circulation to the hindbrain. Aim of the Study: To analyze the morphological and morphometric variations of the fourth part of vertebral arteries. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted in the Department of Anatomy, Vinayaka Mission's Kirupananda Variyar Medical College and Hospitals, Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. Fifteen adult human brains' specimens acquired from embalmed human cadavers were utilized for the study. Morphology and morphometric analysis of the fourth part of vertebral arteries were done to demonstrate the variations. Vernier caliper was used for morphometric analysis. Results: The mean diameter of the fourth part of the left vertebral artery has been larger in size than the right vertebral artery with a mean of 2.55 mm ± 0.30 mm. In one specimen, the fourth part of the left vertebral artery was very narrow with a diameter of 0.1 mm and the right vertebral artery measured 0.4 mm. Conclusion: Hypoplasia of the fourth part of the vertebral artery is a contributing factor in acute ischemia of the brain. Morphological variations of the vertebral artery are considered as an etiological factor for conditions such as atherosclerosis, infarction, vascular malformations, transient ischemic attack and syndromes such as Wallenberg's and Medial Medullary syndrome. Vascular variations usually subject for controversy, and detailed knowledge of such variations serves as a key role in procedures such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and neurovascular surgeries. The study will be done extensively to support the anatomical and morphological variations of vertebral arteries to make fruitful clinical implications.

Background: Chronic tonsillitis (CT) is a common inflammatory illness in children, and serum antistreptolysin O titer (ASOT) is a common investigation performed for these cases and considered a perfect sign for tonsillectomy. Objective: To evaluate the expression of tonsillar T-and B-lymphocytes markers in relation to seropositive or seronegative ASOT in cases of CT. Materials and Methods: Thirty children (15 males and 15 females) aged 6–10 years were divided equally into two groups: Group A seropositive ASOT (≥400 IU) and Group B seronegative ASOT (<400 IU). Both performed bilateral tonsillectomy. Specimens from the removed tonsils were taken and prepared for light microscopic examination and immunohistochemical evaluation of CD20 and CD3 expression. Results: Seropositive ASOT group showed significant histopathologic changes in the form of hyperplasia of the stratified squamous nonkeratinized epithelium, Urgas's abscess, and severe lymphocytic infiltration. Immunohistochemical results of seropositive ASOT group showed marked expression of CD3 and CD20, while seronegative ASOT group showed mild expression of CD3 and CD20. Conclusion: Seropositive ASOT CT, in addition to histopathological changes, is associated with significant increase in both B-lymphocytes (CD20 expression) and T-lymphocytes (CD3 expression) markers.

RosaiDorfman disease (RDD) is a rare, self-limiting disease of uncertain etiology involving lymph nodes as well as extranodal sites. Isolated or pure cutaneous RDD (PCRDD) without lymph node involvement is very unusual accounting for only 3% of all described cases of RDD. The clinical features of PCRDD are quite different from RDD according to the literature on extranodal RDD, thereby emphasizing that PCRDD is a distinct clinical entity. Histopathology remains the gold standard for the diagnosis of both systemic and PCRDD with the presence of characteristic emperipolesis observed in histiocytes while immunohistochemistry (IHC) (S100, CD 68 positive, and CD 1a-negative) serves as a useful adjunct. We hereby report a case of a 36-year-old female who presented with a tender, indurated plaque on the left forearm with a clinical differential diagnosis of borderline tuberculoid leprosy/sarcoidosis and lupus vulgaris. However, on histopathology, a diagnosis of RDD was performed and confirmed on IHC. This case highlights the need to create awareness among young pathologists and clinicians about PCRDD to prevent overzealous treatment.

Giant cell tumor (GCT), also known as osteoclastoma, is a locally aggressive benign tumor arising in the epiphysis of bone. It accounts for 3%–8% of all bone tumors. About 75%–90% of GCTs occur in long tubular bones with more than 50% arising in the distal femur and proximal tibia. Flat bone involvements such as ribs, skull, patella, sternum, and clavicle are rare. Sixty–seventy percent of patients with GCT are between 20 and 40 years of age, rarely affecting too young or too old. We present here an unusual case of GCT of the clavicle in a 62-year-old female.
